Keep this site a Porn Free Zone

by avrilo @ 2006-05-30 - 23:19:41

2 days ago when I blogged, I clicked on 'next blog' from one of my friends. There were porn pictures on a blog. Full frontal, both sexes no holds barred going for it. As I know there are young bloggers who use this site I was angry that some twat could spoil it for them. If my grandaughter who will be 13 soon and wants to blog saw those photos I would have felt awful, after telling her and her parents how safe a site it is. Anyway, I reported this site and it seems to have gone now. So, anyone wanting to share any porn, go somewhere else, where there will be people expecting it, not here. Children need to be protected from porn, and I think I do too! I don't want to see it on this site, that's felt so safe before. I don't want to see some man's willy waving around, he should keep it in his trousers! I don't care if anyone thinks I'm a prude. I'm not, but if I were, that's my business. So, thanks to the admin for dealing with it. Just bear in mind that bloggers can log on at 13, so keep the site safe for them and respect their innocence and naivity

Menu for Tuesday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-30 - 19:49:22

DINNER
Monkfish sauteed with onion, chilli, celery in tomato sauce
Rice
Salad with Organic Beetroot MMMmmmmmm

Although It's just me, Mr A being away working, I thought I'd make the effort rather than bung in the oven chips and something else from the freezer. In fact, it's ready, I really had to update my blog first though as I didn't log on yesterday.

I will never moan again about doing lists, well, not within cyber earshot anyway, as I got some nice replies to it. I am still catching up with replying to comments as I got quite a few. Apparently, so I was told, I was in the top 20 yesterday, well, that's interesting since I didn't even blog! Or, it may have been the day before, can't be arsed to check. Yup, that's me these days, can't be arsed.

Been pulling up Montbreecia by the clumploads today. Trying to herd it into little sections rather than taking over. There's thousands of the little bulby blighters! They are a lovely flower, orange, when they come out but the leaves are so big they overshadow everything else. My little lobelia need some more leg room!

Right, that's it. I'm off to eat at Chez Avrilo........

List for the Letter 'I'

by avrilo @ 2006-05-28 - 22:35:46

Just reminded myself that Purple Dragon asked me to do a list of 10 things about myself beginning with the letter 'I.' Well, I volunteered if you must know. Whenever I do a list it seems to generate a distinct lack of interest from others. So, not having learnt from past mistakes, here I go again.....

THINGS ABOUT ME BEGINNING WITH THE LETTER 'I'

1. Irrepressible - I do tend to bounce back after being squashed. Usually, though after the menopause, it's rather a crawl back than a bounce.

2. Ignorant - I am extraordinarily ignorant of geography. There's loads of places I haven't the foggiest idea of where they are. I am also ignorant of things I find boring.

3.Impetuous - A typical Aries in that I will be the one in a room full of people to put their hand up and ask the question that seems to have an obvious answer. Or ask the question no one else dared to, but wanted to.

4. Incompatable - with certain types of men who talk and don't listen. A generalisation, but I've found most women will listen.

5. Imp - I can be a mischevious little imp sometimes.

6. Impatient - When walking around a supermarket I get annoyed when others walk around so slowly, blocking my way. I usually get a basket and they are pushing a trolley, sauntering along oblivious of me charging up behind them. Also applies when walking. I like to walk fast. I don't get annoyed with those who are disabled, just those who don't look around them.

7. Idealistic - More often that not I think the best of people (except when in supermarkets, see above.)

8. Irreverant - I can act very silly in places of great solemnity.

9. Imaginative - my imagination can usually take me away from the mundane.

10. Ireland - I lived in Southern Ireland for 6 years and loved it there. The land is very friendly and the locals still believe in myths, legends and faeries.

That's off the top of my head. I'm sure there were better more appropriate ones, but say lavvy.

So, anyone else up for it? Just ask me for a letter (no gaellic ones please, jokers) and I will post you a letter (BOOM! BOOM!) Then you can share with us something new about yourself.

Sunday Roast

by avrilo @ 2006-05-28 - 20:21:22

DINNER
Roast Chicken
Roast Parsnips
Roast Potatoes (King Edwards)
Organic Green Beans
Gravy, as recommended from the Angels

It is all ('cept for the beans) roasting away in the Rayburn, the food smells pervading the house....Mr A is tidying up the garden before putting it to bed. The veggies and flowers are coming up a treat, though they (like us) need more sun.

When, like me, you lead a boring life, little things can assume an importance that would be laughable in another's life. For instance. I bought Dusky a new double feeding bowl. In maroon. With non-slip attachments. Now, I got quite excited to find out if it would be better to put the food in the smaller of the compartments, and the milk in the larger. Tried it that way round, to discover, indeed, it would be better to have the milk in the smaller compartment and the food in the larger. I had to go and lie down after that discovery!

I had a nice time working out harmonies for a new song we are doing, and from those harmonies, worked out a whole other song. I felt a bit like one of those old black guys in the USA, sitting on their wooden porch playing guitar. 'Stripey Top Avrilo' could be my nick name in the Blues World.

I can never remember the latin names for plants. I got given a load of flowers, each name announciated clearly of what they were. Can I remember? Not one. So, it will be fun when they flower to discover what's what. It'll be along the lines of 'the one with the blue flowers' or 'the tall one with darker leaves.' I'll never be invited to appear on Gardeners Question Time at this rate.......

Menu for Saturday with new profile pic

by avrilo @ 2006-05-27 - 20:05:43

DINNER
Chilli Con Carne
New Potatoes
Salad a la Moi - which is:
Capers
Bellini Peppers
Olives
Pinenuts
Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds
Onion
Hothouse Lettuce
Tomatoes chopped fine
Cucumber
All in a Balsamic Vinegar and Walnut Oil Dressing

With some help (thanks Lynda and Fatal) I have managed to change my profile pic. Hurrah! It was a bit big, and the important bit, namely my new striped top, has been cut out! O well, at least we got the new hairdo in.

Took Rocket (corgi with alsation head) down the beach with a ball. The other dogs there got jealous and tried to take it, but she kept it, and didn't get snappy either. It got covered in sand, so she held it in a puddle and shook it to wash it. Clever dog! I took some pix on my camera phone and at a later date will try to download onto blog..Don't hold your breath...

Got 'Oceans 12' actually bought it since I enjoyed 'Oceans 11' so much. Seen it before and remember it was such a good film that I could watch it again and again.

Mr A is fitting an airing cupboard in the bathroom. He never has 'days off.' Don't feel sorry for him, he loves doing stuff and knows how to relax when he wants to. I planted out quite a few flowers that have been queueing up to go in for the past week, but been sitting in a bucket cos of the rain. The grounds still really wet, but I shaped the muddy clay around them, like a vase, and hopefully they will grow out of the it ok. That would be neat, if the sun shone, baked the clay and - hey presto - flowers in the garden growing out of their very own vase!

I know a story is long overdue. Think of Tyalskye and Pacy as being on their holidays, taking a break from solving natural and supernatural crime. Maybe later, in fact the story may well be set on their holidays, a shared villa in Marbella perhaps, not realising that the row of villas is rented out by a gay travel agency, except for their one.......

Menu for Freyas Day

by avrilo @ 2006-05-26 - 20:20:17

DINNER
Spring Lamb Cutlets with clove of garlic inserted
New Baby Potatoes boiled with big dab of butter
Salad a la Moi with capers and olives added

Walnut and Advocaat flavour Ice Cream

Got the cutlets smelling nicely in the Rayburn, the whole house wafts of garlicy lamb smell.

Little corgi called Rocket who we are dog sitting for the weekend came for a walk. I have never met a dog so mad for retrieving sticks. After a while, I ignore her and keep walking but she kept dropping the stick at my feet and giving this piercing bark. So, I'd throw it again and off she tumbles after it into the undergrowth with total abandon. I do believe she would jump over a cliff if the stick went first. Mr A had the lovely job of cutting off her 'dangleberries' as he called it. The mucky bits round her backside (dried shit.) She has really long hair so it's not surprising, and she won't get many dates with personal hygiene (rather lack of it) like that! However, she really is a sweet dog and no trouble.

I've been told that my Menu of the Day is relaxing, and could I sell them for that purpose? Well, entrenepeurs (however it's spelt) this is your chance! To whom should I target my Menu of the Day for relaxation? Alternative therapy clinics? Could systemize it so that certain menus are appropriate for different conditions.
Say someone has depression, (yes, I can hear you say, 'someone has depression,) well, mango sorbet would be a good one for that. Main course though, hmmm, maybe a meditteranean meal, cous cous with felafel, and tomato salad. Red would be good to cheer someone up. Oooo and radishes! They couldn't be glum with that peppery taste in their mouth.
I'm off to dish up now, have a good evening dear friends....

Blogging between raindrops

by avrilo @ 2006-05-26 - 12:15:39

Another day of rain! As an opening gambit in the blog world, I realise that this strain of thought won't hold the attention of readers unless I add something drastic. Erm...I am not pregnant!
No, there is no expectation of me having another baby in this lifetime. Negative news isn't always bad. So, that's the best I can do at the moment. I really am waiting for the rain to ease off so I can go out.

Hey, well done Lynds for getting a smashing video together of fellow bloggers. All set to music, and edited properly. Give that girl a gold star! Seeing Juzzzy's pic made me feel a tad sad that his amusing ramblings will no longer be read. I won't go on about it, cos I've already done that epitaph.

Oooo, it's stopped raining.....Menu of the day later......

MENU FOR TUESDAY IN CAPITALS

by avrilo @ 2006-05-25 - 21:45:44

DINNER
Chicken Curry with leftover sauce from takeaway last night (Jalfreezi)
Basmati Rice
Salad a la Moi with Sunflower and Pumpkin Seeds and Pinenuts as extra

Last night was a takeaway from the Taj Majal, about 4 miles away. It was a fancy of mine. I ordered a Jalfreezi, which was the hottest curry I've ever had! I managed about a third of it. It was part celebration at our good news and part 'couldn't be arsed to cook'.

Watched 'Oceans 11' dvd, although seen it before. Such a good plot, and top actors. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Elliot Gould, the cost of them alone must run into millions. After watching that I resolved to buy the next one, 'Oceans 12.' I have seen it, but enjoyed it so much, it's the sort of film that can be watched again and again.

Dusky has been venturing into the house again, now that's it is dog free for her meal, bit of a lap sit, then out again. She has a spot under a tarp, on a pallet that seems to suit her. Bad news Dusky, we've got Rocket, a corgi with the face of an alsation for the weekend. She is my son's dog and he's away for the weekend. She is a sweet little dog about 4 years old. As has been remarked by a few people, her tail resembles a toilet brush.

I shall miss Juzzzy's blogs, he apparently has got his girl and is ready to leave blogworld. That's gratitude for you! A real talent for amusing readers that will leave a gap.

After trying to prune my friends list I seem to acquired more. There are 2 that do not write in English, but what the heck, I said yes to the invite. I have not heard from them since. Right! Time to stay put and move on to visit friends in their own bloghouses.......

4 x 4 Wuss

by avrilo @ 2006-05-24 - 16:14:50

I stopped behind this very new looking 4 x 4 in glossy black. It
had 3 logos on it.

'Outcastz'
'Outlaw'
and finally.........
'Custom Made'
What a wuss!

Being Wednesday, my usual routine of potato wedges with chilli and cheese is being thwarted. Brenda is going to Sardinia for a wedding tomorrow and can't come tonight. How selfish is that? How long does it take to pack a new frock and accessories? Or maybe it's because her boyfriend is back from being away for weeks, taking groups on safari to Morrocco. These days, safari means driving around in 4 x 4's, stopping to take photos then on to the next place, staying overnight at some posh hotel with all mod cons.

In my day, we had locals carrying our luggage on their backs, mules carrying the heavier cooking equipment and our guide would have to hack his way through dense undergrowth. Now, that's what I call a safari.

WE GOT IT!

by avrilo @ 2006-05-24 - 11:43:42

Hurrah! Hurrah! And one more - Hurrah!

Yes, good news this morning, we have got our mortgage and so can stay in our lovely wooden house in the forest. Phew! It has been so stressful, I've never know stress like it.
It is a bit of a long story with the seller of the house, which I won't go into (those regulars know some of the history we've had) which has added to the stress and pressure.
We have had to jump through quite a few hoops to get this mortgage. Renovating the house up to a good standard from being virtually derelict, paying off all existing loans, and paying enough solicitor's fees to fund a world cruise.

Thank you dear readers for all the support from your end of the screen. It helped to keep spirits up when they were low, and it didn't seem possible. So, thank you Ecology Building Society! They were the only ones prepared to give us a loan for our wooden house. They use recycled paper for all correspondence and really do practice what they preach, which is to live in a responsible way in tune with the environment. Hurray for them! Hurray for us! Hurray for you! Hurray for everybody!!!!

Menu for Tuesday and catchup from Monday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-23 - 18:59:57

MONDAY DINNER
Chorizo in Tomato Sauce, with chilli
Organic Spaghetti
Salad a la Moi

TONIGHT'S FEAST
Anti-pasto, Selection of Parma Ham, Serrano Ham and Salami Milano
Green Olives and Bellini Peppers
4 Cheese Pizza
Mediterranean Vegetable Pizza
Salad a la Moi with Radishes fresh from the garden

A day of showers, so I got stuck in with the giant suduko, where you have to fill in numbers 1-9 and letters a-f. Bit of a mind bender, good for concentration and helps to forget about anything else.

Bit of an uninspired blog tonight. I can't think of one interesting thing to say..........

Shag List from Fatal.

by avrilo @ 2006-05-22 - 18:02:31

So, I have to list 10 people I would like to hump and then pass the list on to 5 others. Here goes.
1. Mr Avrilo - he's bloody gorgeous!
2. Johnny Depp - ditto
3. Johnny Depp - once wouldn't be enough
4. Uma Thurman - so pretty and tall..wouldn't say no to some heavy petting.....
5. Dali Lama - I would just like him to feel his sensual side, we may not actually do 'it'
6. Mr Avrilo - to show him that it wasn't serious with the Dali Lama
7. Bill Bailey - funny and sexy...
8. That Irish guy from 'Black Books' ......Moran, Sean? Aiden?
9. Mr Avrilo - humping's coming home....
10. Mr Avrilo - all the others in between were just a fling....

Ok, so, some of you other old codgers on my list will be asked.

1. Going Somewhere
2. Juzzy
3. Eggbod
4. Emsbabee
5.Moondancer (he's not answering his phone, so I'll pick another)
5. Helly 100
Now, I've never 'tagged' before, so I'll just pop round for a personal visit with piece of paper in hand.......

Menu for Sunday for four

by avrilo @ 2006-05-21 - 22:04:15

DINNER
Baked King Edwards Potatoes
Strong Cheddar grated on top
Salad a la Moi

A good day with Molly and Eve, whilst Mr A delivered logs to various friends. We got new swimsuits then headed for the village hotel which has an indoor pool. Cor, it were lovely! quite a large pool and very warm. It has a jacuzzi on the side which is really warm and bubbly. I invented a new swim stroke. Swimming backwards with arms going in circles, underneath the water. Also tried lying on my side swimming, posed like lying on a sofa. Just messing around in the water brings out the playful child that loves a good airing. Swam about 8 lengths, doing one, playing, then another, so not all at once. The girls love to swim underwater and had their goggles. Molly does the doggie paddle, and Eve does about 4 strokes of crawl then clutches the rail.

After dinner, we heard the story of Molly fending off muggers. Eve, who is quite the business woman (9yrs old) was selling glo sticks and some boys started to mug her. She shouted for Molly who came running and saw them boys off. So, Eve now carries a horn around with her, she got the idea from the film Narnia. It sounds really loud, it has something inside to make a loud sound. It looks like one of those viking horns, made of bone, and is on a red string. Anyway, as soon as Molly hears the horn, she will know Eve is in trouble and come to the rescue. I think that's quite cute, as normally they argue a lot. How sensible too, to carry around something to sound an alarm!

I've escaped in here and left Mr A doing charades with them. I should go and rescue him, he hasn't sounded a horn, but I think I can hear a mental one......

Menu for Saturday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-20 - 17:07:33

DINNER
For Vegans
Veggie Burgers

Meat Eaters
Beefburgers

Oven Chips
Green Beans
Salad a la Moi

Yup, my vegetarian grandaughters and vegan ex daughter in law and step grandson are coming for dinner. The girls will stay till Monday, which has been a routine for the last few visits. As they will be going away for most of the summer to England it's nice to see them while they are still in Wales. They go to stay on a farm to pick cherries, there are a few families that do that.

Mr A is cutting up wood with his chainsaw, moving it to stack it by the house. We've got about 2 years worth.

Dusky came in yesterday and sat on my lap till Megan returned, then she was off. She had a big bowl of food though and very wet paws. At least I know she hasn't taken off and she'll be glad when Megan goes on Monday when the in laws are back. They went on a walking holiday, averaging about 12 miles a day. Not bad for 70 year olds! On the phone, she said they'd walked through the east end of London down footpaths that seemed to be right in the countryside, with no hint that London was so close. Lots of marsh areas, which is good, as no houses can built on it to eat up the bits of green that are left.

I shall miss Dr Who tonight, at times like these I miss tv. The girls will probably bring a dvd, they enjoy watching it of an evening, though sometimes I get some games out, like buckaroo, kerplunck.

Actually, what I feel like doing right now is having a siesta....gonna grab 40 winks............

Menu for Freyas Day

by avrilo @ 2006-05-19 - 20:00:50

DINNER
Spring lamb cutlets
New baby potatoes
Salad a la Mr A
Peas

Megan went with Mr A to his office today (they love having her there) to give Dusky a chance to come in and eat. No sign, even with me calling out to her. She'll come back when she's ready. Pesky, moody cat.

The last jigsaw in the mortgage application was fitted yesterday when the valuer came to assess the house and the renovations we have done and are going to do. A very nice man who put us at our ease. We both felt stress levels up to Mars waiting for him to arrive (he was 2 hours late.) He was sympathetic to what we want to do, eg, solar panels for power, and keeping the same character of the house. He said that in countries like Sweden, they build lots of wooden houses. In this country there is such a hooha about it. Most wooden houses are used a holiday homes, and to live in them is becoming rarer. Main reason, it's so hard to get a mortgage. So, we shall hear next week after he submits his report.

It's been raining and windy, knocking plant pots over. The kitchen extension has a see through plastic roof and we can hear the rain really loudly, like in a tent. I find it quite comforting. Maybe it's because I'm inside. I can't think of anything more interesting at the moment. I know Going Somewhere will be saying 'give us a story!' She's right, you know. It must be time for another Tyalskye and Pacy detective adventure. However, not tonight (Josephine.) I have Molly and Eve coming for the weekend. I told them I would take them swimming and get new costumes for them. Our village has a hotel with an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. I have looked around but not taken the plunge yet. (Ha! Ha!)

Back to good ol' boring text

by avrilo @ 2006-05-18 - 00:24:35

I've just reactivated my old design, at least visitors will be able to read my blogs easier. Wading through the wellington green sheet of dull colour could put off quite a few.. At least I like to think so. Quite a few I mean, not liking to think about putting people off.
Comprende?

So, it's Wednesday, it's chilli n cheese wedges day! Yup, me and Brenda stuffed ourselves on the well publicised pub grub before our weekly sing in. We rehersed one of my songs called 'Crush.' It's about having a crush on someone, and how it feels:
'This feeling's so exciting,
it's like a wave I'm riding.'

That gives you a flavour. It's really upbeat, with a middle 8 that goes into a rap! We are going to choreograph a nifty little dance number to go with it.

I am still liking my new haircut. I've coloured it deep red (to go with my eyes, no, not really...)Tomorrow we have a date with a neighbour to come over for a jam. I'm looking forward to it, as we haven't played music together before. He has busked all over Europe. Mr A will be on drums.

Poor old Dusky has stayed away while we have the lovely Megan with us (till Saturday) as she doesn't like dogs, any dogs. She appears once a day, with her 'meerower' asking for food, has some then buggers off.

Well, I'm off for a quick visit round my friends places before bed. Reading Kathy Reichs. In real life she is a forensic pathologist, investigating bones of dead people and her stories are about a women who does the same. Could be called a 'bone detective.' Not quite as readable as Patricia Cornwell, who writes similarly about a woman doing the same sort of work. Guess it's a bit like CSI for you fans out there. I haven't watched it myself, but have heard how popular it is. Anyway, I digress, I'm going...........now..

Ooooer...changing my design

by avrilo @ 2006-05-16 - 23:44:53

I'm not quite sure whether or not to keep this!
I've lost my profile!

Menu for Tuesday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-16 - 21:05:21

DINNER

Monkfish sauteed with courgettes, onion and garlic in tomato sauce
with a few splashes of red hot pepper sauce
Dill

Rice

Salad a la Moi

Monkfish is a very tasty, meaty fish. It has just one backbone, easy to remove. I recommend it.

Bought a printer today. Hurray! So I've already printed a couple of pix, one being the axe handles one. This photography lark is a bit of alright.

Nothing much else to report, except it's been raining. Living here, I am so aware of dusk creeping in, because of the big windows and closeness to being outside. The front door is open all day until dark. Weeded the front flower and herb garden, it's starting to really take off now. The main buggers are cleavers (that stick to clothes) and creeping ivy. I've rescued the sweet peas from slug attack, might have lost a few of them. The honeysuckle is climbing nicely, I gave it a bit of a pat of the backside to encourage it to climb further up the railing of the deck.

Menu for Monday and catch up Sunday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-15 - 19:20:17

SUNDAY DINNER - for four
Starters should have been Mussels, but, long story, we didn't have them
Roast Chicken
Roast Potatoes
Cabbage
Organic Carrots
Divine Gravy

Walnut and Advocaat flavour ice cream
Mango Sorbet

TONIGHT DINNER - just the 2 of us
Homemade Chicken soup with leftover roast chicken, celery, onion, cabbage, carrot, noodles.

Our friends are returning to Galway, Ireland tomorrow after a lovely stop over here. We went to the beach and picked fresh mussels, but in the end we didn't have time to cook them as the roast was ready and wouldn't wait...
They are travelling in a van which is set up to sleep and cook in, so they didn't need to stay in the house after all and picked nice spots to park up in. Went and saw a 200 year old farmhouse for sale with some land and woods. The house was lovely, it had a really nice 'feel' to it. My friends loved it, and there were barns and enough land for their horses, sheep and any other animals they may bring over with them.

The wallflowers are up, petals like old velvet in rustic colours, peeping amongst the blue of forget-me-nots, hyacinths and bluebells.
All of a sudden it seems the trees are in leaf, not it really is like living in a jungle!

We have my in-laws dog, Megan with us, Dusky disappears when she is around. Megan went in with Mark to his office, so Dusky came and had a big dinner to make up for missing it last night.

Symphony for Axe Handles

Mr A spent a delightful afternoon putting on new handles and painting the heads of our assortment of axes and mallet.
They are tastefully arranged standing against the rail of the 'deck' (for want of a better word, patio? veranda?)

I thought they looked very nice in their new red shoes!

Da! Da! Here's me at the Regatta in my new boat necked top.
How do I put this photo as my profile photo? It's in my media bit at the moment. It won't download as the file is too big for 'change photos' bit.

Menu for four for Saturday

by avrilo @ 2006-05-13 - 15:32:45

DINNER

Spaghetti Bolognese, using organic spaghetti (yes, it does taste better)
Salad a la Moi

Walnut and Advocaat flavour Ice Cream
Mango Sorbet

Well, our visitors didn't arrive last night, they are coming tonight. Just as well. The Tofu dinner of last night didn't turn out as nice as I thought it would be. It was a very 'brown' meal, to look at and to taste. In fact, Mr A gave it a miss and just had the Tortellini. He doesn't like tofu anyway, and I thought he might have forgotten he didn't like it, fat chance! O well, I had it heated up for lunch today with Quinoa, added soy sauce and it was ok. Filled a gap anyway.

Mr A watching football on a neighbours tv, it's for a cup.

So, I've downloaded my photos and will now attempt to put one on with new hairdo. Apparently, I've exceeded my hard disc space. Let's see if I can put it in the media photo, then primary photo. Here I go, wish me luck!

Menu of the day - for 4

by avrilo @ 2006-05-12 - 15:16:04

DINNER
Fresh Tortellini stuffed with Feta and Spinach
Marinated Tofu in Tomato Sauce
Salad a la Moi

Expecting 2 friends later, they are visiting from Ireland, where they have an organic smallholding. They are selling up and moving to Wales. Hurrah! So they will be staying a few days to look around for somewhere to buy. They are interesting people and I'll tell you about them another time, but here's a little taster. They used to travel in a genuine barrel-topped wagon, drawn by 2 carthorses. The last remaining horse, Toby died at age 25 a few years ago. They used to renovate gypsy wagons and travel in them to pick fruit during season.

Bacha Beyond were fantastic! All their other gigs were sold out, but Cardiff had quite a few empty seats. Never mind, the whole place was heaving with dancing. 2 people from Bacha Beyond travelled to the forest where the Pygmies live and learnt some of their music and rythmns and built a solar powered studio where they recorded their music. A fantastic collaboration. On stage, they said this is the first time the tribe had left their home. They weren't used to stairs, and found that sometimes they weren't sure if they were going up or down! Here they were on stage 6 of them. 2 women, one, a grandmother who had a chair to sit on while she played a maracca. The 4 guys all wore baseball caps and western trousers. They looked as if they were about 4'8". When they got way down and funky, they turned their baseball caps around! Check them out on the web.

We are going to be looking after Megan, a long haired black and white collie for a week while her owners are off on a walking holiday. She's deaf now and quite old but so loveable and huggeable we are really looking forward to having her. She's met Dusky before, so it should be ok.

Finally, a big thanks for all you who replied wanting to stay on my friends list. That's that sorted then.

Pruning my friends list

by avrilo @ 2006-05-10 - 14:56:54

I have sent personal messages to a few on my list who I never hear from, and don't get replies when I leave a comment on their blogs to ask if they want to remain on my list.

I don't want loads of friends, just to have the numbers. I'd rather have friends who want to be there to communicate, even if only occasionally.

There may be a menu of the day later, or not. Depending on whether we are singing tonight. If we are, then you know what's on the menu!

Going to see some performing Pygmies tomorrow. A group called Bacha Beyond, who normally live in the rainforest. This is their first trip outside their environment. Tell you all about it later.

Stop press...just heard from Brenda, and it's on for tonight, so it will be wedges with chilli n cheese, as usual!

Voices from the Ether

by avrilo @ 2006-05-10 - 12:48:59

I use a radio/cassette as speakers with my computer.

I was sitting here visiting posts and reading emails when a young female voice came out of the radio (radio not on) and said "O my god, no way!" in a silly fake American accent.

It was weird! The rest of the time it is silent, unless I access something with sound.

Thing is, I'd just left a comment with Eggbod saying not to start with the fish puns - please Cod. Then came the voice......

I know there's probably a perfectly practical explanation for it. Any ideas anyone?

Menu of the Day and Haircut News

by avrilo @ 2006-05-09 - 22:25:24

Yup, 'tis done! Went to the hairdressers today, and for 19 quid I have been transformed into Sarah Jessica Parker, well the hair, anyway, even though it's brunette. Decided not to go for replication of the wig style as I was informed it would be a lot of work with 'products' to maintain. So, it's just touching the top of my shoulders, being layered and shaped with a fringe. Since the length has been cut off it's gone really wavy. Actually more like a Donovan cut, but - I LIKE IT! I sent a photo via phone to Mr A. When I'm more organised I'll change my profile pic to the updated version. Also went to Next and bought new jeans. One pair stretch and skinny, the other shorter length ones and a blue and orange striped short sleeve top with a wide neck.

DINNER
Chicken Jalfreezi - not homemade
Basmati Rice
Yoghurt mint and cucumber

Couldn't be arsed tonight, not after a hard days shopping and losing hair.

I'm sitting on a 'kneeling' stool. It has 2 seats, 1 for bum, 1 for knees. Dusky insists on sharing it with me, so I have to put feet on seat where knees should go so she is sitting on my feet. How did I get into this predicatment?

Rescue party required to free Princess Eggbod

by avrilo @ 2006-05-09 - 00:45:24

There is no entry to the blog castle of Princess Eggbod.
I suspect the admin staff might be holding her prisoner behind the screen. Hers is the only place I cannot gain admittance, which is mighty strange.

She may be being held to ransom until all blogs cease to whinge about lack of email notification.

If anyone manages to break in and speak to her, do say I tried, and failed to bring a packed lunch of pickled eggs and chips.

If only she had long hair she might stand a chance...........

Feeling Hungry?

by avrilo @ 2006-05-08 - 20:41:50

DINNER
Felafal (mushed up chickpeas shaped into balls)
Quinoa
Salad a la Moi

Mr A is away again this week, so I will be dining with just the penguins tonight. Yup, got that penguins marching across the ice film. I debated with the woman in Londis whether children would like it. I thought they would, she said they'd get bored just seeing penguins walking along. I think she's wrong. The part of me that is still a child will love it. What's not to love? Penguins - walking in their funny way - dad penguins cuddling the babies - no Hollywood star to spoil the action.....

A good day for me today. Preparing myself for going back to work. So, hair dyed auburn, shorter hair cut (tomorrow, promise) and maybe I'll splash out and get some new socks.

Got meself a few new invites. So thank you Roza, a very optimistic and refreshing new blogger from Jerusalem. Thank you Fatal Attraction, for remembering who I am after the night you swished away on your chair with your finger on the delete button. Both honeys worth getting to know.....Ooo and Skip - welcome back!
